How to pay - your options

Direct debit

This is the easiest, quickest, and most cost-effective way of paying all your bills, not just council tax.

Guarantee: If there's a problem you have the reassurance of knowing that whatever happens, your money is protected.

No stress: Once you have signed up – that's it!  You need do nothing else – ever!  We do it all for you.  We will amend your instalments automatically each year or when a change in your circumstances means that the amount you are required to pay changes, and we'll give you at least 10 working days' notice before we request any amended amounts from your bank or building society account.

Flexibility:  Direct debit is the only method that allows for payment on any date other than the 1st – you have the option of paying on the 15th of each month.

What to do:  If you would like to pay by direct debit, print the mandate from the link on the right of this page, complete it in full – making sure all details are correct and your council tax account reference number is entered in the originator's reference number box.  Then return it to us either by post to Town Hall, Main Road, Romford RM1 3BB, or hand them in at any of our Public Advice and Service Centres - not your bank/building society and we will do the rest.   It really is that simple!

Important:  You must pay any outstanding instalments when you return your mandate as they will be collected along with your first direct debit payment unless you have made an arrangement with us separately.

Automated Telephone Payments

Pay when you want as long as your payment is received on or before the 1st of the month.  We accept most debit and credit cards. Please note that credit card payments incur a 1.5% transaction charge. If you'd like to make a payment in this way, call our 24 hour payment line on 01708 433993.  You can also use your card to make online payments as described below.

You will need to have your council tax account reference number and debit/credit card details to hand.
