Initially, residents can contact Havering Council on 01708 432563 to arrange collection. If you find a dead animal and wish to move it away from the highway, you can move it to the front of your premises and place it in a bag, which is the desired method of collection. Officers will then remove the animal from a specified location as reported. The council do not remove animals from the rear of a property (e.g. a back garden), and so request any animals found are removed to the front of a property.
If the animal reported has been chipped, officers will seek to obtain a reading and will then attempt to contact the owner, who can make arrangements to collect their family pet should they wish to do so.
For animals who do not have an owner, or whose owner can not be identified or may not wish to make collection arrangements, the Council will contact Vetspeed (a Council contractor) who will collect the animal and arrange a cremation within two weeks of collection.
To request removal of a dead animal from a public area fill in a Report an Animal Problem form.
If large dead animals (deer/horses etc.) are causing a danger during out of hours times, please contact 01708 433999 who will arrange removal.
