What is a Children's Centre
A Children's Centre is a place in the community where families with children under the age of five can access a whole range of activities, services and information. In Havering the Children's Centres work with parents and carers to ensure that our services lead to better outcomes for children and their families, promoting social inclusion and creating healthy and safer communities. Havering Children's Centres are working to become the first local port of call for all families with young children, providing support during those crucial early years should they need help or advice regarding their child's health, development or care.
What types of services and activities are on offer
Our centres offer a wide and varied range of services and activities including:
- Antenatal and post-natal services
- Parent and Toddler groups
- Dental and oral advice
- Job Centre Plus and training opportunities
- Speech and language advice
- Breastfeeding groups and support
- Family support and help with parenting skills
- Information regarding local childcare
Who can use the Children's Centres
All parents-to-be and families with children under 5 (including wider family members such as grandparents) can use the facilities and services in our Children's Centres. Please do call in to your nearest centre and find out what's available.
Where are the Children's Centres
There are thirteen Children's Centres across Havering: this ensures that all of our families have access to services. Not all Children's Centres will have the same range of activities and facilities but our friendly and knowledgeable staff will tell you which are on offer at your local centre and how you can access other services in your area. There are links to each centre's page on the left hand side; this includes contact information and activity timetables.
Please tell us about yourself and your family by completing our registration form and handing it in at any Children's Centre; this will help us to provide services that are matched to local families' needs. The registration form can be downloaded from the link on the right hand side of the page or is available at any of our Children's Centres.
If you would like to see a Family Support Worker, please complete the Family Support Worker Referral form; this can be downloaded from the link on the right hand side of the page or is available at any of our Children's Centres.
