Registration - Copy Certificates

Requesting a copy of a Birth Certificate


If you need a copy of a birth certificate, you should apply to the Register Office in the district where you were born either by letter or by sending the appropriate form available from your local Registration office. You will need to supply the following information:

  • Full name at birth
  • Date and place of birth
  • Full names of both parents
  • Mother's maiden surname

How much does a copy certificate cost?

As of 1st April 2012, The cost of a certificate is £4.00 at the time of registration, and £7 thereafter for as long as the register remains open.  If the entry is in a closed register; a certified copy of a short or full birth certificate is currently £10.00.   Payment can be made by debit/credit card.  Please supply a telephone number that we can contact you on to collect payment once we have verified that we hold the register. 

Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope with each application.

Fast-Track Copy Certificate Service

Prices from 1 April 2012 until 31 March 2013

Langtons House can offer a fast-track copy certificate service between Monday - Friday, requests must be received by 3pm

£10 for a copy certificate to be produced within 24 hours, plus statutory fee.

£25 for a copy certificate to be produced while-you-wait, plus statutory fee.

Payment must be received before the certificate is produced. Please either email/write-in with all the relevant details for your copy certificate request AND a contact number to registration@havering.gov.uk, ( you will then be contacted to collect payment over the phone ) OR call into Langtons House, complete an application form and make your payment. The certificate will then be produced.

 

Requesting a copy of a Death Certificate

If you need a copy of a death certificate, you should apply to the Register Office in the area where the death occurred either by letter or by sending the appropriate form (available from your local Registration office). You will need to supply the following information:

  • Name of the deceased
  • Date of death
  • Place of death
  • Applicant's details and relationship to the deceased
  • Reason for application

How much does a copy certificate cost?

As of 1 April 2012, the cost of a certificate is £4.00 at the time of registration, £7 thereafter as long as the register is open.  If the entry is in a closed register a certified copy of the certificate costs £10.00. 

To obtain a copy death certificate where the death occurred in Havering, please contact Langtons House on 01708 433403 or 01708 433523.  Alternatively you can email registration@havering.gov.uk (please list all the information listed above) OR call into Langtons House, Billet Lane, Hornchurch, Essex, RM11 1XJ, Monday-Friday 9am - 4.30pm.  Payment can be made by debit or credit card.

We also offer a 'fast-track' copy certificate service for those certificates that are required urgently.  In addition to the statutory fees above, a certificate produced within 24 hours costs £10.  Alternatively, we offer a while-you-wait service for £10 (requests received up until 3pm each weekday).

Requesting a copy of a Marriage Certificate

If you need a copy of a marriage certificate, you should apply to the Register office in the district where the marriage occurred either by letter or by sending the appropriate form (available from your local Registration office). You will need to supply the following information:

  • Names of both parties
  • Date of marriage
  • Place of marriage (either Register Office or Church)

How much does a copy certificate cost?

As of 1 April 2012, The cost of a certificate is £4.00 at the time of registration and £7 thereafter as long as the entry is in an open register.  If the entry is in a closed register a certified copy costs £10.00.   If the marriage occurred within Havering, you can request a copy certificate by telephoning 01708 433523/433403 or email us on registration@havering.gov.uk (please state in your email all the information detailed above)  Alternatively, you can call into Langtons House, Billet Lane, Hornchurch, Essex, RM11 1XJ between Monday - Friday, 9am - 4.30pm. 

Payment can be made by debit or credit card.  Please supply a telephone number we can contact you on to collect paymen once we have vertified we have the register.
