School admissions - appeals

We apologise in advance if you experience problems accessing the Pan London eAdmissions website. Every effort has been made to cope with the heavy demand expected at 5pm on 4 April 2011 and we cannot guarantee that everyone will be able to access the website straight away.

Please be aware that notification of your outcome will also be sent to you by email from 5pm onwards on the 4 April 2011.

We recommend that you do not do anything further until you have received a letter in the post giving full details of the outcome of your application. The letters will be posted first class on 4 April 2011.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

School admissions - appeals

Legislation requires every Admission Authority (referred to as "the Authority" throughout these pages) to make arrangements for enabling parents to appeal against decisions made by the Authority as to the school at which their child is to be educated.

In Havering – and in these pages – "the Authority" means:
  • Havering Council for admissions to all schools other than Voluntary Aided and Foundation schools, and Academies
  • The Governing Bodies of Voluntary Aided and Foundation Schools, and Academies
The Education Appeals Secretariat deals with all appeals for the schools for which Havering Council is responsible, and those for most Voluntary Aided, Foundation schools and Academies in Havering.

The download available on the right hand side, entitled "School Admissions Appeal Guidance for Appellants" explains how the appeals process works and will help you to appeal against an Authority's decision not to offer your child a place at your preferred school(s).

A booklet based on this download is sent to every appellant.

The download is intended to help you understand:

  • The appeal process and the different types of appeal;
  • What will happen at an appeal hearing; and
  • How the Appeal Panel will make its decision on your appeal.
If you have any questions about any part of the process that are not answered in these pages, please contact the Education Appeals Secretariat on 01708 433076, who will be pleased to help.

 School Appeals Timetable

The timetable for appeals for 2012/2013 is available for download on the right hand side of this page.

Please note that you will be notified of the exact time and date of your appeal at least a week before it is due. The dates in the timetable are given as guidance only and are subject to change, but any change will be notified directly to you.
