About Havering Music School
Our 80 specialist instrumental and vocal tutors teach in nearly all secondary schools and in most primary schools in the borough. Lessons are available on most orchestral, band and contemporary instruments and voice. We offer rare instruments like oboe, bassoon, double bass and orchestral percussion.
We have nearly 1,000 instruments available to hire, so children can see whether it's for them without the cost of buying up front. As students progress they are able to take nationally recognised exams at our own centre.
At our Saturday and Weekday Music Centres young people play together in ensembles, sing in choirs and take instrumental and vocal lessons. On Saturdays we can cater for infants to sixth formers and have recently started to offer brass lessons for adults. Our flagship ensembles, the Youth Orchestra and Youth Brass Band, rehearse on Wednesday evenings, along with others.
Havering Music School is the lead partner in the Havering Music Education Hub - a partnership of local and national organisations delivering music activities, projects and events. Our partners include:
Loan of musical instruments
There are a limited supply of Saturday/Wednesday Music Centre and Borough instruments available for short term hire. These are only available to pupils who are having instrumental lessons on that instrument with a Havering Music School teacher as part of our provision. Parent/carers will be required to complete a loan form to be kept at the Music Centre. Please note, parent/carers are responsible for the safekeeping of instruments and insurance against loss or damage should be taken out.
Instruments may be purchased through our VAT free scheme, subject to criteria. Please enquire at the Music School if you are interested in this.
