Health and Sports Development

The aim of the Health and Sports Development Team is to provide and enable opportunities for all the community to participate in sport and physical activity allowing each individual to achieve their full potential and take steps towards leading a healthy lifestyle.


The Health and Sports Development Team work in partnership with a wide variety of organisations e.g. NHS Havering, Sport England, Governing Bodies of Sport, Youth Sport Trust, Pro-Active East London, schools, voluntary sports clubs and the private sector.

  • Sport and physical activity programmes and events for children, young people, adults and older people
  • Inter-borough sporting events
  • Inclusive and Active (sport and physical activity for disabled people)
  • Physical Activity Referral Scheme (PARS) on behalf of NHS Havering
  • MEND (healthy lifestyle programme for children aged 7-13yrs), on behalf of NHS Havering
  • Havering Walking for Health Programme
  • Coach Education opportunities
  • Liaison with Havering Sports Council
  • Partnership working with Havering School Sports Collective

Quest Accreditation

2009 Havering Health and Sports Development Team gained 79% in their first Quest assessment which resulted in accreditation in the 'Highly Commended' category.  Two years on, following a successful assessment visit in September 2011, the team upgraded their accreditation to "Excellent".

Quest is a national accreditation scheme based on continual improvement.  Over a two day assessment visit performance is assessed against ten management issues across the themes of Strategy (including Research and Community Engagement, Planning, Partnerships and Continuous Improvement), Service Delivery (Planning and Procedures, Health and Safety, Customer Relations and Marketing) and People Management.
