Behaviour Support Service
A team of experienced teachers with specialist knowledge and expertise in the field of behaviour and counselling, provide support for pupils, teachers, schools and other provisions.
The team offers support with a wide range of behavioural issues and approaches. The Head of Service and the team are available for specialist advice and support to meet identified needs. Individual referrals may be made through schools or other professionals.
The Transition & Mediation team (TAMS) work with pupils returning to mainstream schooling after a time spent in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). The team may also be directed to work within mainstream schools by Behaviour Support Teachers.
Any LA school within the borough may utilise the team's expertise to best suit their needs on an individual, managerial or strategic level. The service supports prevention and early intervention work to secure better outcomes for Children and Young People and also ensure support is cost effective.
The Behaviour Support Service usually operates through buy back arrangements. The BSS has a small budget that allows it to provide a minimum free service to all schools. Any additional service is chargeable on a non-profit cost-recovery basis.
Further information on costs to schools is available upon request.
