Welcome to the Havering Community & Police Consultative Group website
Havering Community & Police Consultative Group (CPCG) exists to provide means for local consultation between the police and the community on all matters relating to the policing of the London Borough of Havering.
Havering CPCG was established in 1993 as a result of the Scarman Report which recommended that there should be a formal method of regular consultation between the police and the community. Groups were funded initially by the Metropolitan Police but more recently funding has been provided by the Metropolitan Police Authority. The majority of London boroughs have a CPCG, although in many boroughs the group is called Community & Police Engagement Group (CPEG).
The role of the CPCG is to provide a formal and regular link between the community and the police and to work with the police to identify and prioritise issues of local concern. Our aim is to discuss all aspects of policing in Havering including how to tackle street crime, drug abuse, vandalism and road safety. In addition racial incidents are monitored via the Stop and Search Monitoring Group which has CPCG representation.
The CPCG is made up of representatives from voluntary groups in Havering. It has wide representation covering a diverse range of areas, including religious and faith groups, disability groups and victim support. We are always seeking ways of increasing our representation so if you are active in a voluntary group and would like to get involved, we would like to hear from you. To become a member or to find out more about us, please contact our Administrator at the address below. A copy of your constitution should be provided. Our Administrator is only works part-time so an answer phone may take your message.
We hold quarterly meetings which are open to CPCG members and the public. The meetings are also attended by representatives of the local police, normally the Borough Commander and his senior staff, Ward Councillors, representatives from the Safer Neighbourhood Panels and officers from the Community Safety Partnership. This is an opportunity to raise issues of concern, although individual issues cannot be raised publicly. We always receive an update from the Borough Commander on local issues. We seek to have a speaker at each meeting covering a topic of interest.
The Executive Committee is made up of representatives from voluntary groups and the 'officers', including the Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Honorary Secretary who are elected at the AGM in July of each year. The Executive committee meets 10 times a year. Copies of a summary of the Executive meetings and minutes of the quarterly meetings can be found on the 'Documents' page of the website after they have been formally approved. Dates of the quarterly meetings are also published.
