Licence - boatman

Any person wishing to become a boatman must obtain a licence.

There are three agencies that regulate the waterways of Great Britain.

They are:

  • British Waterways  runs almost all the canals, and rivers such as the Severn, Trent and Yorkshire Ouse.
  • The Environment Agency  runs the River Thames, the River Medway, and the rivers of East Anglia.
  • The Broads Authority  runs the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads.

If you want to become a boatman on the River Thames you will need to contact The Environment Agency in the region.
