Red routes

The Red Route network in London consists of the main, strategic traffic routes.

  • Due to the importance of these roads for moving traffic, strict controls on parking have been introduced.
  • Red lines instead of the more usual yellow lines denote these parking controls.
  • The Metropolitan Police and their traffic wardens carry out the enforcement of Red Route controls, not the Council's parking attendants.
  • In Havering, the Red Route network consists of the A12, A13 and A127, which were formerly trunk roads.
  • The A12, A13 and A127 are now the responsibility of Transport for London (TfL), not the Council.

The Council is not responsible for the maintenance of these roads or associated lamp columns, road signs, trees or grass verges. All correspondence regarding these types of roads should be sent to Transport for London.
