Dropped kerbs and vehicle crossings

Dropped kerbs/pavement lowering for vehicle access.

You may make a request to Havering to lower the pavement immediately outside your property. This is normally when you want to have a driveway onto your property.

What sort of information do you need with my application form?

  • A drawing (free hand) of the front of the property in relation to the highway.
  • Type of footway surface (e.g. concrete/tarmac);
  • Is there any nearby street furniture e.g. lamp column, trees or other obstructions that may need to be relocated?

What happens next?

  • An area liaison officer will inspect the site and estimate the cost of the work and approve it if appropriate.
  • You will then receive a letter that will confirm if the work has been approved. It will also give you the full costs for the work.

How much does it cost?

  • Before you receive a quote our officers will need to asses how much work is needed in order to construct the vehicle crossing. If you accept the terms/quote sent to you from Havering you must make payment of the full amount stated in your letter. This will depend on the amount of work involved, including the size, depth and surface of footway.

Do I need planning permission?

  • If you live on a local distributor road or in a maisonette you will require planning permission.
  • You will need to fill out a planning application form (ask about this when you make your request).
  • Please see 'Do I need planning permission?' which will explain what to do and how much it will cost.
