- Havering Business Awards beats 'The BRITS'
The Havering Business Awards is officially London's number one awards event, having pipped the UK's most glamorous pop showcase to the top spot.
The Havering Business Awards, organised by the London Borough of Havering, has won Visit London's 'Business Event of the Year' award, beating off fierce competition from other entrants including Fords, Marks and Spencer... and the BRIT Awards!
The 'Visit London' awards is both a showcase and a celebration of the best of the city's leisure and business tourism.
The award citation read: "It is the Borough's proactive commitment, both to supporting existing local business and creating attractive new investment opportunities, that has really seen this area develop into a thriving business community of more than 7,000 businesses across a wide variety of sectors.
"The Havering Business Awards - a self-funding project with no media sponsorship - is a great example of the Borough's progressive approach. Created specifically to inspire and help local businesses achieve success, these prestigious awards recognise best practice, generate income for those that take part and promote Havering as a desirable business location.
"In fact, such is the success of the event that Lambeth, Redbridge and Barking & Dagenham Councils are also now using this model. Well done Havering!"
Leader of Havering Council, Cllr Michael White, said: "This is a superb achievement for Havering. The purpose of the Havering Business awards is to inspire local businesses to achieve the success they deserve - and now the awards are a huge success in their own right. Now we have beaten the BRITS, perhaps next year, we'll go after the Oscars!"
