Visual Arts Centre at Frances Bardsley School

The Visual Arts Centre is a purpose built gallery and workshop space situated on Brentwood Road, Romford. The building is owned and managed by the Frances Bardsley School for Girls and was built in response to the school gaining specialist status in the Visual Arts in 2004. Since opening in June 2006, The Visual Arts Centre has opened its doors to over 3000 Havering residents and has programmed exhibitions by local and international artists such as David Hockey, Peter Blake, The Material Girls, Ya-Africa and Hawa groups of Nairobi and most recently Salvador Dali and Lee Millar. It also plays host to exhibitions by local schools and colleges.

The building was designed by architect Richard Hazel of Hazel Mccormack Young and built by Framework CMD. Due to the pre-fabrication techniques used by Framework CMD the building is unique. Its wooden cladding and glass structure allow the space to burst with natural daylight thus creating a healthy environment that enhances creativity and learning.

Exhibitions are open to the general public from 9:30 – 12:20 & 13:30 – 16:30 Monday to Friday. The workshop space is available for hire 7 days per week from 9:00 – 23:00.

If you are a local group or artist/designer we welcome your enquiry to hire the space for exhibitions or workshops.
