Gif of Let's Talk

The Government recently published its plans for cuts in funding across the public sector to reduce the national debt.

Havering Council has agreed proposals to cut Council spending by £19 million over the next three years and make an additional in year saving in 2010/11 of £3 million.  A recent report set out the Council's response to the Government's emergency budget and estimates that over the next five years, the Council's budget will need to reduce by around £50 million, representing around 25 per cent of Havering's current annual expenditure.

The savings will be found by transforming how the Council works. Its strategy is to become more efficient by reducing bureaucracy, working with partners and making it easier for the public to deal with the Council; to focus services where they are most needed and help local people and communities to help themselves more wherever possible; and to remain fair, by recognising where people cannot help themselves and ensure that high quality social care and other support is available to them.

If you have any comments on the proposals or ideas about how the Council can save money, you can let us know by using our Let's Talk online form or by emailing us at letstalk@havering.gov.uk
