Citizenship ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies were introduced in January 2004 as a way of welcoming people to a local community and the country as a whole. Many felt the previous arrangements for naturalisation or registration as a British citizen were bureaucratic and did little to give people a full understanding of the rights and responsibilities that came with British citizenship. The ceremony was therefore designed to stress the importance of embracing the diversity of cultures and faiths that make up the UK, playing an active role in society and feeling a sense of belonging to a wider community.

Following a major refurbishment programme lasting 6 months, Langtons House is re-open.  The House is the venue for our grand Citizenship Ceremonies that are attended by the Mayor of Havering

Citizenship ceremonies are held at Langtons House. The ceremony is conducted by Registration Officers and includes a speech by a local dignitary. After the ceremony there are light refreshments for citizens and their guests and the opportunity to take commemorative photographs.

New citizens can request an individual ceremony at a time and date of their choice.  From 01 April 2010, the fee for a private ceremony is £135.00.

To arrange a citizenship ceremony, please contact the Registration General Office on 01708 433403/433523 or email registration@havering.gov.uk . Please have your Home Office reference to hand when you make the call.
