Please watch out for invitations to participate in the next award which will be going out to schools in early June 2009.

3. Reviewing Opportunity

We need as many people as possible to read the books that are being considered for the book award initial short lists. If you are interested and want to know more, please contact Anne Lehva, SLS manager on 07932 036574.

4. New Books

Do you teach in Havering? The SLS is prepared to gather together collections of books so that school can look at them before buying. Please let us know if there are any subjects you would like to look at and if several schools feel the same we will obtain a collection for you.

5. Working in School Libraries?

The Government has announced the formation of a School Support Staff Negotiating Body which will be responsible for setting up and implementing a framework within which it will negotiate on the pay and conditions for school support staff in all maintained schools in England. This includes Secondary School Librarians. For specimen job descriptions please go to the TDA (Teachers Development Agency) website and the UNISON website. This item will be updated as more information becomes available.

6. Primary and Secondary School Library self evaluation frameworks.

The SLS still has some copies of these. If you want to discuss the implications of the documents or need help with the implementation in your school, please contact Anne Lehva.
