Cremation

The well tended gardens of remembrance at the South Essex Crematorium have been the source of comfort for the bereaved over many years. Its peaceful surroundings and tasteful architecture provide a welcoming atmosphere, especially for those visiting the site for the first time.

Since its opening in 1957, families have been able to wander freely through he grounds with its shaded lawns, contemplate quietly in one of the many secluded rose gardens or by the various water features which are to be found within the grounds.

We have two chapels which are interdenominational and therefore can accommodate all religions and non-religious ceremonies. The South chapel can comfortably seat 96 mourners whilst the East which is smaller, is restricted to 40. We provide the choice of accompanied organ music or recorded music from our extensive library. Families own recordings can be accommodated with suitable advance notice. Adequate free car parking facilities are provided, adjacent to each chapel.

Each funeral is allocated 40 minutes in either of our chapels. This includes entry, committal service and exit at the end by the family.

However, should you require a longer service time, a double time slot can be arranged at an additional cost. Alternatively, the service could be conducted elsewhere in church, followed by final committal at the crematorium.

South Chapel - every 40 minutes from 9:20am to 4:00pm

East Chapel - every 40 minutes from 9:40am to 3:40pm

We are prepared to accept crematorium bookings as early as 8:00am and as late as 6:00pm Monday to Friday.

Outside of 9:20am and 4:00pm there is a surcharge added. 9:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays only ( charges are increased by 50%)

Funeral services are continuous. (We do not close for lunch)

Exit Junction 29 towards Romford

Approx 1 mile take fly over sign posted Upminster

Drive up slip road, turn left

Continue straight on for a further 2 miles through Upminster town centre and housing

Road takes sharp left hand bend into Ockendon Road

Pass Huntsman and Hounds public house on the right

South Essex Crematorium entrance is gateway on left

Cemetery entrance is on the left approx 30m after the Crematorium

By Public Transport

From Upminster Station (Main or District Line)

Turn left and bus stop is a few yards away

Bus number 370 will stop outside Crematorium on request

Taxi cabs are available outside the station
