Havering Council owns approximately 10,000 homes for rent to local people and there are over 2,200 leaseholders. Leaseholders own the leasehold of their flats while the Council owns the freehold and provides leasehold services. In total the Council owns housing assets valued in excess of £500 million.
Tenanted and leasehold properties are now managed on behalf of the Council by Homes in Havering. Ownership of the Mardyke Estate transferred to Old Ford Housing Association in March 2008. Other services, such as lettings, are retained by the Council. Please visit the Homes in Havering site for further information.
Publicly owned housing in Havering
Our aim is to provide good quality, affordable housing. In support of this goal, we plan through Homes in Havering to provide a range of modernisation programmes to continually upgrade our housing, including the installation of central heating and double glazing. On the Council's behalf, Homes in Havering and its repairs contractor, Morrison, spend some £13 million a year on repairs and maintenance.
Supporting People is a national government programme that funds housing related support services to help vulnerable live independently within their communities. To find out more click on the right hand link on this page.
