​Providing new homes for local people

​At a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 15 June 2016 Havering Council decided to explore proposals to build up to 2,500 new Council homes on 12 sites across the borough.

The aim is to provide new homes for local people to rent as well as some low cost homes for local people to buy, perhaps through shared ownership schemes.

The Council will keep ownership of the land as well as replace Council homes sold through the Right to Buy.

Councillors asked officers to consult with residents in each of the 12 areas and during the last month a series of meetings have been held so residents could make their views known.

One of those sites is Chippenham Road, Farnham Road and Hilldene Avenue, in Harold Hill, and Regeneration Programme Director, Neil Stubbings, was at St George’s Church Hall, Chippenham Road, Harold Hill on Thursday 28 July to meet with local residents, explain the current proposals and listen to views.

No decision has been taken regarding whether any of the 12 sites will be redeveloped, the consultations taking place will help Cabinet reach a decision this autumn.

Keeping you up to date on regeneration proposals

In the last few months there has been considerable progress with the Housing Regeneration Programme.
The initial 51 potential development partners that had expressed interest in the project have now been reduced to six with a decision on a final partner due to be made at the end of this year.
Many residents from the Waterloo Estate, Napier House and New Plymouth House have moved as these are likely to be the first estates to be regenerated.
There have also been residents move from Chippenham Road, Farnham Road and Hilldene Avenue as suitable properties which meet their housing needs become available.
Those moves will continue over the next few years as the Housing Regeneration Programme continues to move forward.

Local Lettings Plan

A Local Lettings Plan for this regeneration site is being prepared and will give details of the offers the Council will make as well as the help and advice it will provide to tenants, leaseholders and freeholders.
