Libraries, leisure centres and arts service changes

All Havering libraries and leisure centres are closed. Havering Music School and Fairkytes Arts Centre are closed. The pre-school on the Fairkytes site is open on in line with government guidance on schools. Our arts and sports events and activity programmes are all cancelled. Our ebooks and audio books, and some online resources, have been extended to temporary members.

Silly Squad Competitions

silly squad 1

If you are aged 4 to 11 years and live or go to school in Havering, why not take part in one of Havering Libraries Silly Squad competitions? There's plenty to choose from:

  • Book review - write a book review of one of your favourite books from this summer. Your review should be approximately 50 words – or you can draw us a book review picture.
  • Silly short stories - your story should be up to 500 words, or you can even do a comic strip with or without words.
  • Calling all poets - we would like you to write or perform a poem you have written.
  • Get crafty - be creative, but make sure it's silly! It could be a picture, model, invention, map...the only limit is your imagination! Please make sure the maximum size is A4, or a small sculpture.

More details are available on our Facebook page.

Let your pieces be full of fun, laughter and happiness and hopefully they will bring us all lots of smiles, giggles and maybe even some big belly laughs.

Once you have completed your entry/entries, please email them (or photos of them!) to us at:

Please include your full name, age, email address (or phone number if dropping your entry into a library) and which school you will be going to from September. The closing date will be Saturday 5th September 2020.

If you are unable to email it you will be able to drop off entries when our libraries reopen. Please note that if you do this, we will be unable to return your work to you (so please keep a copy or a photo to remember it by for yourself).

We have a selection of funny and silly books as prizes which will be awarded in the Autumn Term and winners will be notified on a weekly basis. If you haven’t heard within 3 weeks of sending us your entry, please assume that you have not been successful this time.

Good luck!
