Romford Market is changing with new events, stallholders and from Friday 18 November until 15 January you will be able to skate on a large temporary ice rink that will bring festive cheer to the town.

Experienced temporary ice rink contractors Very Nice Ice will erect the rink in early November near the clock tower end of the Market Place ready in time for the first skaters to take to the ice on the day after the Christmas lights are switched on in Romford town centre.

The rink will operate seven days a week across the festive season (except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day) from midday - 9pm on school days and 10am - 9pm on weekends and school holidays, except on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when the rink will close at 4pm.

The 27 metre x 12.5 metre rink, which will be covered, will have a capacity for 150 skaters per hour and the pricing will be £8.50 per adult and £6.50 per child for a session of one hour. The rink will be open to anyone over three years old and trained staff will be on hand to supervise the skating at all times. There will be special rates for children’s organisations and groups wishing to book sessions on the ice for just £5 per child and adult supervisors skating for free.

Councillor Roger Ramsey, the Leader of Havering Council said:

“I’m very excited that we will have this wonderful attraction in the centre of Romford to attract visitors to the borough, help bring customers to our historic market, and provide great seasonal entertainment for Havering residents.

“Romford has long been known as a town with an ice skating tradition and this ice rink in Romford will give everyone the foretaste of the fantastic new permanent ice skating facilities that our new leisure centre in Western Road will provide from 2018.

“I hope many people will use the rink or just enjoy watching others having fun on the ice!”
