Celebrating achievements in Havering

Published: Tuesday, 4 July 2017

More than 200 staff from 19 schools and colleges assembled for a gala evening to celebrate the first Havering Learning Partnership awards.

Malcolm Drakes, Executive Head teacher of Broadford Primary School, compered the ceremony. All attendees were treated to an evening of fine food, and entertainment from the Havering sixth Form College band.

The ceremony, which took place on Thursday 22 June at Havering Sixth Form College was a collaboration between Havering Council and the Havering Learning Partnership - the association of Havering’s secondary schools and post-16 colleges -to celebrate achievements in education. Awards were given for individual staff excellence in supporting pupils’ progress, school progress and attainment and lastly enrichment, which recognised the huge contribution of extra-curricular activities in schools, such as the performing arts, international trips and PE.

Councillor Robert Brenham, Cabinet Member for Children and learning, said:

“This was an inspirational celebration, showcasing all that is great in Havering’s schools and colleges. The evening highlighted teaching and non-teaching staff who continually make a positive difference to students in their schools.

“The night was a great success, and plans have already begun for next year’s awards ceremony. The gala evening is a great way of celebrating the commitment and dedication of all involved excellence in education in Havering.”
