New homes handed over early

Havering Council has taken delivery of the keys to nine new homes two months early

Thanks to the work by contractor Marfleet Construction Limited of Colchester and project management of the Council’s Housing Services Programme Delivery Team, the new homes are now ready.

The development, in Poplar Street, Romford, has two two-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses for affordable rent and two two-bedroom houses and three three-bedroom houses for Low Cost Home Ownership (LCHO).

Deputy Leader of Havering Council and Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Damian White, said: “These are high standard homes, complete with solar panels and energy efficient insulation, for Havering people.

“The four properties for affordable rent will only be available for people who have lived in Havering for at least six years and the five LCHO properties will also be available only for local people.

“The site used to have a sheltered housing scheme on it which was closed some time ago as not being fit for purpose and using the land to provide nine new family homes close to central Romford is an excellent use of this land.”

The first Council tenants are expected to move in during September and the LCHO properties will soon be on the market for people to buy.
