Published: Monday, 22 January 2018

Havering residents are invited to mark Holocaust Memorial Day at a special service in Romford this Sunday.

The service will be held at the Holocaust War Memorial in Coronation Gardens, Main Road, from 2pm to 3pm.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2018 is the Power of Words. Spoken and written words, can have a huge impact on individuals and society, whether good or bad.

Councillor Linda Van den Hende, Mayor of Havering, said: “The theme for this year is extremely important. The Power of Words – shows that we all need to understand the impact of what we say.

“Holocaust Memorial Day is an extremely important and emotional event. The day emphasises the need to take every opportunity we are given to end discrimination.

“I encourage residents to attend and show their respect for all of those affected by unfair persecution and genocide over the years.”

National Holocaust Memorial Day is on Saturday 27 January.
