Havering residents along with the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Linda Van den Hende marked Holocaust Memorial Day at a special service in Romford yesterday (Sunday 28).

The service, led by Rabbi Lee Sunderland, was held at the Holocaust War Memorial in Coronation Gardens, Main Road with readings from Reverend Mike Power and a moving performance from Marshalls Park Academy Choir at the service and reception. The service was attended by over 100 people.

The theme this year for Holocaust Memorial Day 2018 is the Power of Words and how words can impact individuals and society, whether good or bad.

Councillor Linda Van den Hende, Mayor of Havering, said: “It was an emotional but important event which highlighted the need to take every opportunity we are given to end discrimination. I was very proud to be part of the service and to pay my respect for all of those affected.”
