Havering Council’s Music School’s anthem Now is the Time by the composer, Thomas Hewitt Jones, was premiered on Friday 24 February, in an open rehearsal and performance at Havering Sixth Form College.

Now is the Time has been written to celebrate the artistic collaboration in Havering and to mark milestone anniversaries of both Havering Music School and Havering Arts Society, who generously commissioned this new piece to celebrate their 45th Anniversary.

Havering Music School students played and sang alongside school staff and members of many local community choirs and orchestras, including the Sound Company, Havering Concert Orchestra and the YMCA orchestra. Participants ranged from eight to 80 years’ old.

Councillor Melvin Wallace, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “This premiere really was a day for celebrating community music making. It’s great to see all the community come together to celebrate the anniversary of these fantastic art facilities.”
