Havering Hurricanes won 11 London Youth Games Para Swimming medals

With just nine swimmers, Havering Hurricanes London Youth Games (LYG) Para Swimming team won 11 medals at Beckenham Spa and Leisure Centre on Wednesday 6 June.

The impressive haul included one gold, one silver and nine bronze medals. Overall the girls team finished fourth, a ten place improvement on last year, while the boys were ninth.

The Hurricanes team, ranging from Year 6 to Year 13, included students from Sanders, Frances Bardsley, Dycorts, Nelmes Primary and La Salette Catholic Primary School, some of whom train regularly at Havering Dolphins Swimming Club.

The team managers were Julie Russell, Lynette Dyer and Danny Gray. Julie Russell said:

“It was a great day; all the kids got on really well and encouraged each other even though they had never met before.”

Lynette Dyer added:

“I would like to pay tribute to all the children for their fantastic efforts and the other managers for their fantastic support. It’s been an honour for me to be part of this wonderful team.”

The next LYG competitions will be Handball and Judo on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June.
