Havering prepares to support Armed Forces Day

Havering will once again show its support by celebrating national Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June

A parade will take place, starting at 10.30am on South Street’s junction with Arcade Place, Romford. It will finish at Tollgate House, Market Place.

Among those marching will be currently-serving troops, veterans and cadets as well as service families.

Residents are encouraged to bring their families to watch the parade and will also have the chance to enjoy a street party as part of the day’s celebrations.

The street party, taking place in Romford Market, from 10am to 4pm, will feature free face painting, a mini funfair and music from Time 107.5FM.

A special lunch will also be held to recognise local community champions. Residents across the borough have been asked to nominate someone who they feel deserves a thank you for what he or she does in their communities.

Councillor Denis O’Flynn, Member Champion for the Armed Forces, said:

“I hope that many Havering families will be coming along to this event to show their support for our armed forces, those who have, past and present, helped to keep us safe.

“This annual day is the perfect opportunity for us to show how proud we are of all our armed forces, and how we appreciate the sacrifices they and their families make and the courage they show in risking their own lives to serve their country.”

The armed forces flag will be raised outside Havering Town Hall on Monday 25 June to mark the contribution of servicemen and women ahead of the parade.
