The next steps
- the safeguarding adults team will receive the referral
- they will see if it meets the threshold for Safeguarding adults
- if it does they will investigate further
- you may hear nothing. Don't be alarmed, it does not mean that nothing is being done
The board's responsibilities
The board has a responsibility to:
- protect vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect and significant harm
- bring about positive outcomes for the vulnerable adults who live in Havering
- bring about positive outcomes for the vulnerable adults outside the borough as a result of placement by Havering Council, Havering CCG or the East London NHS Foundation Trust
The board meets bi-monthly and their work includes:
- reducing risk and preventing harm occurring to adults in vulnerable situations and reacting effectively should it happen
- ensuring National policy and guidance are being adhered to locally (see documents of national policy)
- determining local multi-agency policy and procedures (see documents for local policy)
- co-ordinating activity between agencies
- ensuring good communication with the public and raising awareness of how to recognise and refer concerns about vulnerable adults being harmed
- monitoring and reviewing progress in safeguarding practices
- developing ways of working, which will improve ability to support Havering residents across the community to live a life free from abuse
- learning from lessons where people have not been adequately protected

Training
The board also provides an extensive training programme on issues like
- basic safeguarding awareness

- self-neglect and hoarding
- doorstep crime prevention
- modern day slavery
