Work starts on 46 new homes in Harold Hill

Demolition of a small parade of shops, the flats above and some nearby properties is due during May as the first stage of the work by contractors Allenbuild. Work creating the contractors compound is due to start on Monday 27 March and the development should be finished by late 2018.

The finished development will have four three-bedroom houses, six two-bedroom houses, 33 two-bedroom flats and three one-bedroom flats along with 86 parking spaces and two commercial units for local businesses. All the residential properties will be for affordable rent.

A meeting was held on Wednesday 01 March where nearby residents were briefed on the project and were able to ask questions about how the work will proceed. Following that meeting residents have been invited to form a steering group to liaise with Havering Council Housing Services.

Deputy Leader of Havering Council and Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Damian White, said: “Havering Council is committed to building more affordable homes for Havering people. The Housing Regeneration Programme will deliver around 3,500 new homes across 12 parts of the borough during the next seven years but making better use of smaller sites, such as this one in Briar Road, will help deliver around 500 new homes.

“Smaller sites means the work can be done more quickly so new homes can be provided earlier to help local people.

“These new properties will be built to a high standard, be energy efficient and we expect there to be high demand for them.”
