Family Fun Day marks completion of new Community Centre

Published: Monday, 21 August 2017

Friday 1 September 2017 will be a day of celebration in Collier Row when residents on the Highview estate will be able to see inside their new Sapphire Jubilee Community Centre for the first time.

Work started on the project in March this year and thanks to a unique construction technique by Scotts of Thrapston the building is ready for use just six months later. The project has been managed by Havering Council’s Housing Services Programme Delivery Team.

The new community centre will be carbon neutral and have solar powered electricity, ground source heating and rainwater will be captured for use in toilets and for watering the garden areas.

A £10,000 grant from the Tesco Bags of Help fund is helping pay for the new centre.

Deputy Leader of Havering Council and Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Damian White, said: “The Sapphire Jubilee Community Centre is now ready for use and to celebrate we will be holding a Family Fun Day at the site on Friday 1 September 2017 so residents can bring their families along to see what is available.

“There is already a high level of interest from community groups wanting to hold regular events and activities in the new centre and we will be holding an official opening later this year.”
