Work has started on the latest site which is part of the programme to build 3,500 new affordable homes in Havering.

Demolition of Lombard Court, in Poplar Street, Romford, has begun on the site which will provide nine new homes – two two-bedroom and two three-bedroom houses for affordable rent and two two-bedroom and three three-bedroom houses for Low Cost Home Ownership (LCHO).

Deputy Leader of Havering Council and Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Damian White, said: “This site will provide some much needed new family homes for local people who must have lived in Havering for a minimum of six years. Each house will have its own garden and off-street parking and we expect them to be popular as they are close to the A12.

“It is one of a number of sites where we are building on under-utilised land to provide extra homes for Havering people; between them these sites will provide around 1,000 new homes and are designed to complement the Housing Regeneration Programme which will see some 2,500 new homes added to Havering’s housing stock.”

Over the next eight years Havering Council is aiming to build around 3,500 new properties in one of the most ambitious local authority house building programmes in the country.
