Havering’s Poppy Appeal was launched in the Mercury Mall Romford on Wednesday (2 November) with a large number of veterans joined by Havering’s Mayor, Cllr Philippa Crowder, Havering Council Leader.

Cllr Crowder said:

“On behalf of Havering Council I would like to offer a huge thanks to all poppy sellers in our borough for the amazing work they do each year to raise huge sums for the Royal British Legion.”

Pam Morrison, the Poppy Appeal organiser for the Romford district branch of the Royal British Legion said:

“I call my team of collectors the “A team”! Last year we raised £71,500 just in my district within Havering. Most of that money is raised during the poppy fortnight in November and collected by around 20 volunteers who got out every day during that fortnight to sell poppies in the street and in the town’s shopping centres who so kindly help us. The security team at the Mercury Mall always do a great job looking after us as we sell our poppies, key rings, pens and metal badges.”

The Romford branch of the Royal British Legion is always looking for more volunteers to help them sell poppies. If you can help, please email Pam Morrison at pammorri@gmail.com.
