Deputy Mayor to open scooter sheds

Published: Tuesday, 8 November 2016

The Deputy Mayor of Havering, Councillor Linda Van den Hende will officially open new scooter sheds at Cotton Court and Fambridge Court, Marks Road, Romford on Tuesday 15 November.

The specially designed sheds means residents can securely park their mobility scooters under cover and recharge the batteries at the same time.

Deputy Leader of Havering Council and Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Damian White, said: “Mobility scooters are a fantastic way for people who find walking difficult to go shopping, visit friends or just enjoy the fresh air but it is important that the scooters can be stored properly.

“These specialist sheds have an electricity supply so the vehicles can be charged while being stored in a secure place and under cover. The sheds can be relocated to where they are needed so represent a long-term investment by the Council.

“Locating the sheds in the central area of Cotton Court and Fambridge Court sheltered housing scheme was a particular challenge due to the site access so we are looking forward to the Deputy Mayor officially opening this new facility.”

Sheltered Housing Team Manager, Sharon Nunn, is currently undertaking an audit of all Havering Council’s sheltered housing schemes to identify whether each scheme has enough scoot sheds to meet residents’ needs.
