This year, Havering Council’s ceremony will take place on Monday 12 March – Commonwealth Day – at the Town Hall in Romford. The event starts at 9:50am with the reading of the Commonwealth Affirmation followed by a specially written message from The Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, then the flag will be raised at 10am.

Councillor Dilip Patel, Deputy Mayor of Havering, said:

“The Commonwealth is an extremely important part of our culture. This year’s theme is ‘Towards a Common Future’ and it explores how the Commonwealth works to address global challenges to create a better future for all citizens through sustainability, safety, prosperity and fairness.

“I encourage residents to join us to mark this event, when we raise the flag of the Commonwealth in our borough.”
