Special Education Needs and Disability report 2018

Councillor Robert Benham, Cabinet Member for Children's & Learning, said:

“Across Havering, we have been working with schools, health agencies and parents to strengthen our offer to families with children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

“In February this year the SEND provision across Havering was inspected by OFSTED and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
“Throughout the week a team of six inspectors met with Council staff , parents, children and young people, and visited schools and health settings to assess how well we identify, meet and improve SEND needs and outcomes.

“The inspectors highlighted that ‘new systems and more rigorous self-evaluation is resulting in strong improvement’ and that ‘leaders across education, health and social care show a commitment to identify and resolve concerns from complex cases.’

“Ofsted’s findings reinforce that Havering is now in a place where we have an accurate view of our strengths and weaknesses in the borough.

“We will continue to develop the reforms to put children and young people at the centre of planning for their future. We always aim for higher quality and consistency of SEND provision for the children and young people in Havering.”
