Councillors were joined by Havering and Willmott Dixon staff members for a grand tour of the multi-million pound leisure development site on Tuesday 22 November in Romford.

The group had the pleasure of seeing the progression of the two pools, a 25m eight-lane main pool, and a 15 x 8m leaner pool, the fitness area with two studios, sauna and steam rooms; and the borough’s only permanent ice-rink.

The construction of the four storey leisure centre is going to plan, with  the walls and concrete slabs for the ice-rink being installed this week.

The development, constructed by Willmott Dixon Construction, is one of the Council’s most ambitious developments to date and is due to open in April 2018.

Councillor Melvin Wallace, Cabinet Member for Culture and Community Engagement, said: “To see the progression so far is astonishing and we are extremely excited for the opening of this morden leisure centre. The new centre will provide all residents and visitors with the opportunity to have fun, ice-skate, swim and improve and maintain their health and well-being. This is a massive development for the borough and I’m  excited about the future for our leisure centres in Havering.”

Simon Cook, Operations Manager at Willmott Dixon Construction, said: “It’s great to see everybody’s hard work coming together as the leisure centre takes shape. We look forward to successfully completing the job so everyone can benefit from the excellent new facilities.”
