Building regulations

All building work carried out in Havering should meet current regulation requirements. 

Our Building Control Team help you to make sure that all building work meets the requirements set out in building regulations.

These are national standards which provide for the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people in and around buildings.

Building regulations recommend minimum standards in:

  • structural stability
  • fire safety
  • damp-proofing
  • sound insulation
  • stairs ramps and guards
  • ventilation
  • drainage
  • energy conservation
  • access to and use of buildings
  • glazing
  • heat producing appliances
  • water efficiency
  • electrical safety

The regulations generally apply to new, extended and altered buildings whether they are residential, commercial or industrial.

If you would like to speak to a building inspector please call 01708 433100 between 9am – 10am Monday to Friday, after this time they are then out of the office carrying out their inspections for the rest of the day.
