Paying for services
When it comes to paying for residential care, there are a number of options:
- you can privately fund care home accommodation
- we may be able to fund or part-fund the accommodation
- you may be able to enter into a deferred payments agreement where your local authority can pay for your care whilst you sell your home

Extra Care housing
Extra Care is housing for people who need care and support but want to live independently.
You have your own self-contained flat, with your own front door, and staff are available on site 24 hours a day.
Care and support are planned around your assessed needs.
You have a tenancy agreement with the landlord, giving you rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
Your tenancy is separate from your care and support arrangements.
You can enjoy your privacy, come and go as you choose, and use shared spaces to meet other residents and take part in activities.
Eligibility for Extra Care
Extra Care may be suitable if you:
- are aged 55 or over. Some exceptions apply
- have eligible care and support needs assessed by Havering Adult Social Care
- live in Havering, or Havering is responsible for meeting your care and support needs
- want to live independently and can do so safely with the care and support available
We will assess your needs to check whether Extra Care is right for you.
You will also need to meet the landlord’s housing and tenancy requirements.
Rent and care costs are considered separately, and a financial assessment will establish how your care will be paid for.
