Community litter picking

The annual Great British Spring Clean is re-launched as The Great British September Clean, by Keep Britain Tidy.

The campaign runs from 11 to 23 September and aims to encourage people within the community to take action to look after their local environment in a safe way.

Borrow a litter pick and hold a clean up

To support the campaign we are offering you the opportunity to borrow litter picks to assist with clean up activities.

Individual litter picks will be available for collection from 11 September from our Hornchurch depot.

How to take part

Please make arrangements for your clean up with us in advance by emailing environmental.maintenance@havering.gov.uk.

Your safety

To ensure that any clean up activity is carried out safely, we recommend no more than 6 people to take part in any one activity and that the risk assessment information is adhered to at all times.

The equipment will be cleaned prior to collection and then cleaned again upon return ready for the next group to collect.

Equipment should be returned within 48 hours after the activity has taken place.

We anticipate that more litter pick distribution hubs will become available around the borough once a safe system can be put in place and details will be provided on this page so please keep checking.

In the meantime, please contact environmental.maintenance@havering.gov.uk if you are planning to carry out a clean up event and don’t forget to shout about your clean up events by putting it on the Keep Britain Tidy website and use the hashtag #GBSeptemberClean on any social media posts.
