A permanent knife surrender bin is located at Central Park Leisure Centre Car Park, Harold Hill.

The bin is located next to the clothes recycling bin and is clearly marked.

How to safely put a knife in the bin

To safely and anonymously surrender a knife or bladed weapon please:

  • wrap the item securely in newspaper, bubble wrap, or cloth
  • place it in a sealed bag or box and do not label the package
  • go directly to the surrender bin without making any stops
  • do not carry the weapon openly so please conceal it safely until you reach the bin

If stopped by police on the way to the bin you can explain you are surrendering the weapon as part of the Home Office Knife Surrender Scheme, which provides a lawful reason for possession during transport.

About this project

This initiative is part of our commitment to tackling serious violence and promoting community safety.

This project is funded by the Home Office and delivered in partnership with Word 4 Weapons, a charity focused on weapon removal and community education.

The bin will be emptied quarterly for three years.

The initiative aligns with the national ban on ninja swords, which came into effect on 1 August 2025, making it illegal to possess, manufacture, import, or sell these weapons.
