Anyone can apply to rent a Council garage, not just council tenants and leaseholders, though tenants must make sure their rent is up-to-date.

There are waiting lists for garages in some areas, but others may be available immediately.

Following your application you will be added to a waiting list and once a garage becomes available you will be contacted.

Please read before you apply for a garage

For Havering Council tenants or leaseholders who are in rent or service charge arrears, applications will not be accepted until any debt is cleared.

Garage net rent is charged at a cost of £20.97 per week. There is an additional charge of 30p for water in relation to sewerage. The total cost for a garage is £21.27 per week.

If you are not a named council tenant a charge of £4.25 will be added for VAT at a rate of 20 percent. Taking the weekly charge to £25.52.

We will advise the exact charge should a garage become available.

Direct Debit is the only way to pay for your garage. Should your application be successful you will be required to fill out a direct debit form when you sign up.

You will be contacted when one of the garages of your preference becomes available.

If a garage is not available in any of your preferred choices, you will be added to a waiting list, and only contacted once a garage becomes available.

If a garage is available, you will be asked to attend an appointment to sign up for the garage.

You will need to provide us with a recent utility bill and proof of ID (all in the applicants’ name).

The garage licence is a weekly licence and may be terminated by either the Council, with one weeks’ notice or the garage licence holder by giving 4 weeks written notice.

Should you lose your keys to the garage or access keys, you will be charged for a replacement.

Garage rents are reviewed on a yearly basis.
