Register a birth
Congratulations on the new addition to your family. The following information explains what you need to do in order to register your baby's birth.
How soon can the birth be registered?
It is possible to register a baby as soon as the birth has taken place.
A baby's birth must be registered within 42 days.
How and where you can register a birth
Please book an appointment online. You will need a My Havering account to continue.
Please only complete the booking form if your child was born in Havering. This is regardless of where you live.
We are unable to issue certificates for babies born outside of Havering. We can register by declaration and you then order your certificate through the register office where the birth took place.
If you need to register by declaration please email firstname.lastname@example.org and ask for a birth appointment by delcaration.
If you require an urgent appointment we can arrange this. We have limited same day or next day appointments available (excluding Sundays).
Please book your appointment as normal using the link below and email email@example.com with your ENQ reference number. A fee is payable for this service.
You will need to answer questions whilst booking including your baby's full name, mother's details and father's details if applicable.
Payment for certificates and birth certificate wallets will need to be made at the time of booking.
Please ensure you have your debit / credit card ready.
Your appointment will take place at:

You will get the certificate(s) when you attend your appointment.
If you want further copies you can get them online.

This is a lovely way to keep those important certificates safe and there is a space for you to include a photograph of your new arrival.
Information for the register
- the date and place of your baby's birth
- whether the baby is a boy or a girl
- the baby's forenames and surname
- forenames and surnames
- dates and places of birth
In addition, the mother alone is required to provide:
- the total number of previous children
- the date of marriage to the baby's father if applicable.
If the baby's parents are married either parent can attend on their own. Otherwise only the mother is qualified and if the father wishes to be his details to be included in the register he will need to attend with the mother. The father's details may also be added at a later date.
Re-registering a birth
Re-registrations are required when:
- the mother marries the biological father of the child after the birth was registered. Even if the father's details were originally entered in the birth register, and even if the child has the father's surname.
- the father's name was not on the birth certificate, but the mother now wants this added
If you have registered your birth at another registration office please do not request copy certificates until 7 clear days after your appointment as we will be unable to produce your certificates.
