Speed limits and cameras

Speed limits

If you would like a speed limit to be lowered, raised or extended, please contact us: highways@havering.gov.uk or 01708 434343.

Your request will then be assessed by looking at factors such as the level of activity along the road and the number of accidents.

If we decide a speed limit change is needed then a new Speed Limit Order has to be made. This involves a legal process that takes approximately nine months to complete.

Cameras

The purpose of speed safety cameras is to change driver behaviour.

They are only used when people break speed limits. When this happens a camera detects the offence and provides evidence for a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN).

The minimum penalty is £60 and three penalty points on your driving licence.

If you see a faulty camera please contact Transport for London on 0343 222 1234.
