Romford’s festive switch-on is back

Published: Tuesday, 19 October 2021

The countdown to Christmas begins with the festive lights being switched on in Romford Market Place this November (2021).

The big switch-on, taking place from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Thursday 18 November, kicks off the seasonal revelry in Havering.

This year will see a return for the live event, the first since 2019, due to the Covid 19 pandemic restricting the 2020 festivities.

Time 107.5FM, based in Romford, will be hosting the main stage, which is sponsored by Marlborough Highways.

Headlining the entertainment is London’s Big Brovaz and Booty Luv, comprising two R and B vocalists’ part of the original line up of both groups.

Their hits include ‘Nu Flow’ - one of the biggest hits of 2002, and the dance classic ‘Boogie 2nite’, produced by the renowned Hed Kandi dance record label.

Several local artists will also be gracing the stage, including Razzamataz Theatre School, 4tune - a four piece vocal band, vocalist Jasmine Somer as seen on BBC’s Little Mix – The Search.

Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch and Brookside Theatre will also be there - showcasing a preview of their Christmas pantos.

The lights will be switched on at 6.30pm following a firework finale sponsored by Romford BID.

Councillor Damian White, the Leader of Havering Council, said:

“The return of the festive lights switch-on in Romford Market Place is really welcome for everyone after such a difficult year.

“The Market Place has long been the heart and soul of Romford Town Centre and is a proud part of Havering’s heritage.

“I hope everyone comes along to enjoy the entertainment and fireworks as we countdown to Christmas in Havering.

“My thanks to Marlborough Highways, Romford BID, Time FM and Razzamataz Theatre Schools for supporting this year’s festivities.”

The lights switch-on in Romford kick starts a number of switch-ons and events taking place across the borough in the run-up to Christmas.
