Havering outclasses other boroughs for school places

Havering is the top London borough for offering nearly 92 percent of pupils their first or second choice of secondary school place.

Nearly 95 percent of children due to start secondary school this September have been offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools.

Havering has outclassed schools across London, where 89 percent of London pupils - 82,733 children - were offered a place at one of their top three preferences of secondary school, a 2 percent increase from last year.

Councillor Robert Benham, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Families, said:

“Our investment and the brilliant work of our secondary schools has made sure, once again, that more parents in Havering have secured their first or second choice place for their children than anywhere else in London.

“This excellent result demonstrates that the Council continues to deliver high standards by working closely with parents and schools, providing appropriate information to make informed and realistic choices.

“We are also working hard to improve our schools, and have expanded primary and secondary school places in recent years, offering parents more choice, meaning parents can have huge confidence in this Council and the choices they make for their children’s education.

“I would like to thank the school admissions team and everyone involved in helping to make this a smooth and successful process.”
