Havering will celebrate the Queen’s 70th year of service with a variety of events beginning later this month in the run-up to the four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

The Platinum Jubilee

There will be plenty of ways to celebrate with many Council-led events across locations such as Parks, Libraries and Leisure Centres, each giving communities the opportunity to come together and mark this historic milestone.

Highlights include a Beacon Lighting ceremony held on the Village Green in Havering-atte-Bower on Thursday 2 June, which will include performances from the Dagenham Girl Pipers and The Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps.

Romford Market will again be at the centre of festivities with the free family ‘Platinum Party in the Place’ event on Saturday 4 June, complete with picnic style seating, live music from local artists and bands, free arts and crafts for children and a performance from The Royal British Legion Band and Corps of Drums Romford.

The ‘Platinum Party in the Place’ event will also see the unveiling of ‘The Regal Robe’ designed and created by students from New City College.

The garment is made from patriotic red, white and blue cotton and features images of Queen Elizabeth II to further endorse the royal theme.

Many residents will also already be planning their cake bakes and tea parties with over 150 local street parties due to take place over the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

As part of the celebrations, we are putting together a film commemorating the historic occasion and we’re asking residents to capture and share their highlights from across the borough.
