Construction of new Rainham Leisure Centre on schedule

Published: Tuesday, 19 July 2022

The build, which began in January 2022, has its steel frame and concrete base in place as visible signs of progress.

Cabinet members and local ward members, including the leader joined Tom Fletcher, Area Contract Manager, Everyone Active and Adrian Turner, Director of ReCreation, who are managing the design and build of the new facility, to see what has been done so far.

The new centre is being built using a modern design structure and will include a range of facilities such as a six-lane swimming pool, dance and spinning studio and a 72-station fitness suite.

It is expected to be completed and handed over to Everyone Active, the company that runs the leisure centres in the borough, in June 2023 and open to the public shortly after.

The Leader of Havering Council, Ray Morgon, said:

"Seeing the progress on site is really positive, as this will be fantastic new facility not only for the community in Rainham, but for the whole borough.

“It will be an asset to the local community, not just as a place for people to stay healthy through exercise but also somewhere for people of all ages to meet and socialise.

"Therefore seeing this as a significant contribution to both our physical and mental health.”

Tom Fletcher, Area Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said:

“This continued investment from the Council will ensure we can enhance our leisure offering and continue to engage people from all backgrounds in exercise.

“We will continue to work hard with Havering Council and our build partners to ensure that construction is completed to the highest quality and remains on schedule.

"We look forward to utilising this site to improving the lives and wellbeing of people in Havering.”
