Wennington fire: Moving support services closer to those who need them

Published: Friday, 22 July 2022

From today (22 July 2022) Havering’s Assistance Centre will open up in the heart of Wennington at the Premier Inn Hotel, New Road, Rainham to be nearer to those affected by the devastating fire.

The Assistance Centre provides tailored services including help with housing, social care, finance and money matters, mental health and psychological support from Havering Council, the British Red Cross and the North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT).

The Centre in the hotel known as Willow Farm Premier Inn will be open on Friday 22 July 2022 from 10.30am to 5pm and over the weekend from 10.30am for as long as required.

We will provide further detail on the arrangements for the week commencing 25 July 2022 as soon as we can.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“At the beginning of this emergency we knew that the Premier Inn were willing to help local residents with emergency accommodation, supported by the council, but this could not happen as they had no electricity and had to close.

"We are delighted to be moving the centre to the Premier Inn and providing more convenient and effective support to Wennington residents with a range of essential services and specialists under one roof.

“The assistance centre will help us address the psychological effects of the fire and I would urge residents to drop in and have a chat and let us know how they are feeling.

"We will also look to develop the services the centre provides based on what our residents tell us they need and value.”
